2011 BNP Paribas Open

March 7th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s the first day of women’s qualifying for the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden:

The score for the qualifying match that I featured was:

Mathilde Johansson d. Krista Hardebeck 4-6, 7-5, 6-3

In addition to the qualifying matches, many other players are out on the practice courts. There was an exciting scrimmage on one of the practice courts between Agnieska Radwanska and Ana Ivanovic.

Be sure to share GroundsPass.net with your other Tennis Friends, and I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2011 USTA Mixed League III

February 26th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

As I have mentioned before, I am playing on two 8.0 (combined) teams for the USTA Mixed Doubles season. This time, I get to play in my local district/area!

On this team, I do not have a regular partner, however, I try to get together for the team practices, so that I can get used to playing with some of my teammates.

As it turns out, we did do better than we thought, and Cesaria was mistaken. Our final set score was actually 4-6.

My results, so far, for this season are:

Local District/Area 8.0 Mixed Doubles
0-1

Adjacent District/Area 8.0 Mixed Doubles
1-1

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2011 USTA Pro Circuit – Rancho Mirage, CA

February 20th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

The USTA Pro Circuit made its way to Rancho Mirage, California,
for the Childhelp Desert Classic women’s event.
I was there to file this report:

For more information about how you can help Childhelp Merv Griffin Village,
please follow this link:
Childhelp Merv Griffin Village

The first semifinal was quite a see-saw match, considering how lopsided the second set was. Things evened out in the third set and Kristyna Pliskova rolled ahead to win in a third set tiebreak: 7-3.

Kristyna Pliskova d. Lauren Albanese 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(3)

The second semifinal was a spectacular comeback match!
Ashley Weinhold struggled with Karolina Pliskova’s serve and went down 4-1 in the first set. The Texas native fought back and won five games in a row to take the set! In the second set, Weinhold once again fell behind 4-0 before winning six consecutive games to clinch a spot in the final.

Ashley Weinhold d. Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 6-4

After suitable rest, the Pliskova twins won the doubles championship by besting the team of Nadejda Guskova & Sandra Zaniewska: 6-7(6), 6-1, [10-5]

In the Sunday final, Weinhold, who beat Kristyna Pliskova the previous week at Rancho Sante Fe in the first round, breezed through the first set before struggling with the 6-foot Czech’s serve in the second. Pliskova continued serving well in the third and went up a break but, in her come-from-behind style, Weinhold took advantage of her quickness to rally back.

Ashley Weinhold d. Kristyna Pliskova 6-3, 3-6, 7-5

2011 USTA Mixed League II

February 12th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

I am playing on two 8.0 (combined) teams for the USTA Mixed Doubles season. One of the teams is in my local district/area, and the one that I am playing for again this week is in an adjacent district/area.

Being that my partner for this team, Inger, lives about 50 miles and 1.5 hours from me (Los Angeles traffic conditions), it is difficult for us to get together each week to practice together. Despite our unfulfilled efforts, we always bring a positive attitude to our matches!

My results, so far, for this season are:

Local District/Area 8.0 Mixed Doubles
0-0

Adjacent District/Area 8.0 Mixed Doubles
1-1

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!
