2013 US Open National Playoffs

Sunday, June 16th, 2013

Hey Tennis Friends!

The US Open National Qualifying Playoffs took place this week at The Claremont Club in Claremont, California. This is the Southern California section of the summer-long contest.
I stopped by on finals day to file this report:

CLARIFICATION:
In my introduction to Elizabeth Lumpkin I mentioned that she was a “Top 500 player”. I failed to specify that she has been rated as high as #443 on the WTA tour.

Here are the scores for the finals, whose winners will be moving on to the national level of this competition:

Men’s Singles
J.C. Aragone d. Mackenzie “Mackie” McDonald 6-4, 6-4
These two players were finalists in the Boys’ 18s doubles at this years’ Asics Easter Bowl.

Women’s Singles
Mayo Hibi d. Elizabeth Lumpkin 6-3, 6-1
Hibi has made the quarterfinal, or better, in singles in her last three ITF events, winning last week’s event in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Mixed Doubles
Mackie McDonald / Chanelle Van Nguyen
d. Dante Cipulli / Kaitlyn Christian 6-3, 7-6(4)

Both Dante Cipulli and Kaitlyn Christian made it to the quarterfinal in singles at this event.
