2011 USTA Spring League IV

June 4th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

Once again I get to play on the USTA 4.0 team and, this time, I’m trying to even out my 1-2 record. For the third time this season, I got paired up with my buddy, Gus!

The team that we played against are my Tennis Friends that I play with nearly every Friday morning. One of them was even my partner in Fall League last year. Even though it may appear that I had an advantage, knowing their style of play, . . . both of them had the advantage of knowing my style of play!

This time our first set lasted around 32 minutes, and the second set was around 37 minutes!

My results, so far, for this season are:

Local District/Area 4.0 Adult Men Doubles
2-2

Be sure to share GroundsPass.net with your other Tennis Friends, and I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2011 USTA Pro Circuit – Carson, CA

May 28th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

The USTA Pro Circuit made its way to the Home Depot Center in Carson, California,
for the $50,000 Women’s Challenger, presented by Farmers Classic.
I was there to file this report:

There was so much more that I didn’t cover!
With so many battles on so many courts, it was difficult enough to get the shots that I did. That is why I always encourage you to come out to these events and see the action for yourself!

Here are the scores for the matches that I featured:

Ashley Weinhold[3] d. Amanda McDowell 6-4, 6-2

Teodora Mircic[6] d. Gabby Andrews[wc] 5-7, 6-0, 6-2

Unfortunately, I had some problems with the video production, and I was not able to feature an additional match that I covered. That was a tough, double tie-break set, match between two promising young Americans:

Jessica Pegula d. Krista Hardebeck[7] 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4)

Be sure to share GroundsPass.net with your other Tennis Friends, and I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2011 USTA Spring League III

May 14th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

Once again I get to play on the USTA 4.0 team, and, for the second time this season, I got paired up with my buddy, Gus!

The length of time of this match was nearly a reverse situation from the previous match that I played in.
This time our first set lasted around 22 minutes, and the second set was over twice as long, around 50 minutes!

It was pretty funny, and not too common, that in the middle of our match (and the video) Gus caught the ball in the throat of his racquet. When that happens, the point is over, and the opponent’s win the point.
I have seen this happen before, and it’s always a little awkward. I felt that Gus handled it with the appropriately humorous follow through.

My results, so far, for this season are:

Local District/Area 4.0 Adult Men Doubles
1-2

Be sure to share GroundsPass.net with your other Tennis Friends, and I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!
