2012 Texas Tennis Open IV

August 21st, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

The Texas Tennis Open is in full swing, so, if you don’t get down here now, . . . you will regret it!

RUMOR: Alright tweeters . . . let’s get this one trending: #JelenaJankovicYogurt

The final scores for the matches I featured are:

Pauline Parmentier d. Irina Falconi 6-1, 6-4
During the post match interview, Pauline had remembered that Irina had called for her coach during the first. That was understandable. But, what was interesting to me, was that she remembered that it was after she was up 4-1. That’s a detail that I wouldn’t think was important to recall, however, it certainly was to Pauline.

Jelena Jankovic d. Yaroslava Shvedova 6-7(7), 7-6(4), 6-1
This match was so close in the first two sets. They had multiple deuce points that brought the total match time to three hours and six minutes!
It’s amazing how Jelena just broke away in that third set to take it, as Yaroslava is a solid player.

2012 Texas Tennis Open III

August 20th, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

No rain delay today, as the matches were packed in tight at the Texas Tennis Open!

CORRECTION: Generally, I’m not one to correct the players, but,the reason I asked Sorana Cirstea about her inconsistency is because she has, in fact, lost in the first round in nine events this year, including the Olympics. It must be that “short term memory” that we are all taught to have in the game of tennis 🙂

On the positive side, though, this year Sorana made the third round at Wimbledon, and the semifinals at Pattaya City, Barcelona, and Stanford!

The final scores for the matches I featured are:

Bojana Jovanovski d. Alexandra Panova 4-6, 6-1, 6-1

Sorana Cirstea d. Jarmila Gajdosova 7-6(2), 6-4

The weather is going to be great the rest of the tournament, so, come on out and check out the action!

2012 Texas Tennis Open Preview

August 17th, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

I arrived in Texas just in time to attend a special event that became a preview of the Texas Tennis Open!

CORRECTION: I misunderstood the wheelchair tennis player’s name. It is Jeff Sale, not “Salle”, as I had mispronounced it in my voice over. In our brief conversation, Jeff had told me that he is a multi-sport athlete, as he also plays college basketball!

CORRECTION, PART DEUX: That was not Simona Halep, as I mentioned in the video, but, Simone Kalhorn, who is a qualifier.

It always great to see tennis pros at all levels giving back to the community, and sharing this wonderful sport with the next generation.
