2009 LA Tennis Open I

July 27th, 2009

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s my first day of the main draw here a the LA Tennis Open and there is a lot to cram into this report!

The final scores for the matches I mentioned are:

Carsten Ball d. Donald Young 6-3, 6-0

Robert Kendrick d. Vince Spadea 6-0, 6-0
Today’s victory by Robert Kendrick was just the third “double bagel” in tournament history, and is the fourth on the ATP World Tour in 2009.
The previous times it happened at the LA Tennis Open was in the 1969 second round when Arthur Ashe defeated Joaquin Loyo-Mayo and in the 1984 second round when John Frawley defeated Mel Purcell.

Marat Safin d. Pete Sampras 6-4, 3-6, (10-6)
(a match tiebreak was played in lieu of a third set)

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2009 USTA Adult Men VI

July 25th, 2009

Hey Tennis Friends!

Here in Southern California, we sometimes have to deal with adverse weather during a match. Sometimes it’s extreme heat, and I’ve even had a match postponed because of extreme wind!

Apparently, we couldn’t think of any postponement rules for playing at 5,700 feet above sea level, inside a cloud . . .

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2009 USTA Adult Men V

July 18th, 2009

Hey Tennis Friends!

I knew that I was going to play doubles this week, but I did not find out the line-up until minutes before the match. Not enough time for us to coordinate our “team colors” . . .

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!

2009 USTA Adult Men IV

July 11th, 2009

Hey Tennis Friends!

When you have regularly scheduled doubles social tennis, it is difficult to find the extra time (and people) for singles. This week I was able to get two sets of competitive singles practice in, just two days before my weekend 3.5 singles match.

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!
