2011 USTA Pro Circuit – Laguna Niguel, CA

October 1st, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s the third week in a row that the USTA Pro Circuit has a stopped in Southern California. I went down to check out the Futures event being held in Laguna Niguel, and filed this report:

CORRECTION:
The doubles match that I mentioned was to see who made it into the semifinals, not the actual semifinals, as I had mentioned. It was actually a quarterfinal match.

At this level, players are not obligated to do press interviews when they lose. Therefore, it was great to get an interview with Connor Farren, even though he did not win the match.

The results for the matches that I featured are:

Kiryl Harbatsiuk d. Connor Farren 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2

Denis Kudla d. Alexander Sarkissian 6-3, 6-3

Takanyi Garanganga d. Andrei Daescu 7-5, 7-5

Lee Singer / Sanam Singh
d. Connor Farren / Shane Vinsant 1-6, 6-1, [10-7]

Kiryl Harbatsiuk lost his quarterfinal match to Sanam Sing 7-5, 6-3. Both Denis Kudla and Takanyi Garanganga made it to the singles semifinal, and will play each other!
The semifinal matches begin at 10:00AM, today, Saturday, October, 1, so, if you are in the area, you can watch these matches!

This event is being held at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club.

2011 USTA Fall League

September 10th, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s time for USTA Fall League tennis!
This season I have, once again, changed teams. I am very fortunate to have the option to switch teams and meet new Tennis Friends. Hopefully, your local USTA League has regular multiple teams so that you can also take advantage of this, and meet more Tennis Friends!

After our match was finished, we weren’t sure if the record should reflect that it was a match on hard court, or, a match on clay court . . .
Is there even a category for “mixed surfaces”?

My results, so far, for this season are:

Local District/Area 4.0 Adult Men Doubles
1-0

2011 WTT: Newport Beach Breakers IV

September 3rd, 2011

Hey Tennis Friends!

No, . . . it’s not time for summer re-runs, it’s just that the World Team Tennis season is so brief, that I have to give it some extra love, and spread it around through the summer and fall!

These WTT reports are brand new! They’re just a little bit time-shifted while I took a break to fit in the summer hard court season.

In this match, the Newport Beach Breakers took on the Kansas City Explorers, featuring their marquee players, Bob & Mike Bryan!

CORRECTION: It is actually Mike Bryan who is playing doubles with Kveta Peschke in the video, not Bob, as my introduction suggests.

Since the video of this report was recorded in July, here are their current stats:

Current Doubles Ranking: #1

Team Doubles Titles:
73
(All-time men’s doubles team record holders)

Bob’s Doubles Titles:
73
(Plus 2006 US Open Mixed Doubles Champion w/Martina Navratilova
& 2010 US Open Mixed Doubles Champion w/Liezel Huber)

Mike’s Doubles Titles:
75
(Additioanl titles in 2002 w/Mahesh Bhupathi and w/Mark Knowles)

The Bryan brothers have a few events coming up that will benefit their charitable organization The Bryan Bros. Foundation. Visit the link here to find out more details:
Bryan Bros Foundation

Go to the official Newport Beach Breakers website to sign on to their email list here: newportbeachbreakers.com
Be sure to tell ’em that you saw them on GroundsPass.net!

Or, look for YOUR local team
