2012 US Open National Playoffs II

August 13th, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

I’m following up on the US Open National Qualifying Playoffs, which took place this past June at The Claremont Club in Claremont, California. See the original report here: 2012 US Open National Playoffs

This was the Southern California section of the summer-long contest.
As I was reporting on another event, I bumped in to one of the players who is headed to New Haven:

It was great of West to allow me to poke a little fun at what I perceive is their lack of preparation. However, like they said, why fix it, if it isn’t broken?

More information on the U.S. Open National Playoffs:
The winner of each Sectional Qualifying Tournament in each division (men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles) will advance to the US Open National Playoffs Championships in their respective division taking place in New Haven, CT at Yale University during the New Haven Open at Yale, a WTA event, part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series (August 17-20 for singles, August 22-25 for mixed doubles). The winner of each Singles Championship (1 male, 1 female) will receive a wild card entry to compete in the 2012 US Open Qualifying Tournament (August 21-24) and the winner of the Mixed Doubles Championship (1 team) will receive a wild card entry to compete in the 2012 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship (commencing August 29) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

2012 WTT: OC Breakers IV

August 11th, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

Even though the World Team Tennis regular season has ended, I still like to keep the spirit alive by sharing how much fun it is to go to these events!

In this featured match, the OC Breakers took on the Springfield Lasers, plus, there was a special appearance from a guy whom I not only share a love of tennis with, but, we have the same hairstyle!

To clarify the package that was auctioned off at halftime, here’s what it entailed:
2 seats in Billie Jean King’s Ashe Stadium suite at the 2012 US Open
2 seats in Billie Jean King’s VIP box on Center Court at 2013 Wimbledon
2 seats in Billie Jean King’s box on Court 1 at 2013 Wimbledon

This package was auctioned off for $19,000!
And that’s not all, . . . it was for charity, with the money to benefit the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This was ONLY available to the people who attended the Charity Awareness & Fundraising Night.

For more information on the multi-city, former champions/legends tour, featuring Courier, Connors, McEnroe, Chang, Rafter, and Sampras, that I spoke with Andre Agassi about, check out this link: PowersharesSeries.com

2012 WTT: OC Breakers III

August 4th, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

The World Team Tennis regular season has ended. Since I was wrapped up in providing daily coverage of the Farmers Classic, I still have a few reports to share!

In this featured match, the OC Breakers took on the Sacramento Capitals, featuring their marquee player, Sam Querrey. I actually had an interview with Sam, as well as Travis Parrott, but, unfortunately they were lost to the digital corruption gods, never to be recovered. Fortunately, I had a couple of other interviews in my tennis bag . . . !
