Hey Tennis Friends!
There’s more to this tournament, than just tennis . . .
The results for the matches that I mentioned are:
Pablo Andujar / Daniel Gimeno-Traver
d. Benoit Paire / Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6, 6-2, [10-8]
This is the first time that these teams have competed against each other. Considering that Paire/Wawrinka were unseeded and Andujar/Gimeno-Traver are the #7 seeded team, I would think that experience won out this time, . . . however, Andujar/Gimeno-Traver haven’t competed as a team since the 2011 US Open.
Tommy Haas d. Pablo Andujar 6-3, 7-6(0)
With a career high ranking of #2 in the world, back in 2002, Haas has dropped out of the rankings a couple of time because of injuries. In the last couple of years he has made a steady comeback, hovering around the top 20. He will turn 35 on April 3rd.
Tommy Trivia:
In 1988 he flew with the Blue Angels squadron over stadium court in Indian Wells.
