2012 USTA Pro Circuit – Irvine, CA

Hey Tennis Friends!

The Racquet Club of Irvine Pro Futures is the third in a three week USTA Pro Circuit Futures blast through Southern California. I was there on Thursday, of the week-long tournament, to file this report:

Here is the link to the page with the three USTA Pro-Circuit events that we have had in Southern California this month.

Here are the results for the matches that I featured:

SINGLES ROUND OF 16 (with seedings):
(1)Alex Bogdanovic d. Ryan Rowe 6-2, 1-6, 6-2

Before these SoCal events, Alex Bogdanovic had a five-week layoff because of an ailing back. He seems to be recovering well!

Prakash Amritraj d. (4)Reid Carleton 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-0
For those who may not have viewed my report from Claremont: Yes, Prakash is related to Vijay Amritraj. In fact, Prakash is the legendary Indian tennis player’s son. He was born in California and once played for USC. In 2001, he won the boys 18s doubles at the Easter Bowl, with his cousin Stephen Amritraj!

As of this posting, both Alex Bogdanovic and Prakash Amritraj made it to the singles semifinals, and will play against each other. The other semifinal match-up is between Daniel Nguyen and Chris Wettengel, both who have also had tough three-setters along the way. Matches begin at 10:00AM, today, Saturday, September 29, so, if you are in the area, you can watch these matches for FREE!

GREAT tennis matches and coverage!! LIKE your thoughtfulness in “not embarrassing a player” by showing a poor performance match!!

  2. Thanks! I always try to bring honest reporting, but, like I said, it was just not interesting to watch. I will show, and have shown, injuries during matchplay, as well as weak efforts. This time, showing video of what happened just didn’t seem to be relevant to my report.

Paes gave 2 reasons for not pnayilg Armitraj – 1) He wasn’t fit and 2) he wasn’t committed. Obviously he was fit, so that’s a strike against Paes (why say he’s not fit, and then play him in the same tie – if it’s to make a point, it should be made in private). If he’s questioning his committment, then that too should be done in private. Either way, Paes is airing dirty laundry, and obviously the players don’t like that.My guess is the players feel he’s more interested in himself than in the team – shocking for a tema captain – which is always a risk when a captain can still select HIMSELF. This may be the root of the problem.
