2012 Texas Tennis Open VII

Hey Tennis Friends!

“Semifinal Day” is here at the Texas Tennis Open!

As I have been telling you, the finals are on Friday. Matches start at 7PM, so, make your plans to join me!

The final scores for the matches I featured are:

Roberta Vinci d. Bojana Jovanovski 6-0, 6-0
I think that Roberta nailed it on the head when she said that Bojana ” . . . didn’t play so well”. The match only lasted 53 minutes, and I was hard pressed to find any winning highlights from Jovanovski for the parts of the match that I was able to shoot.
I’m always surprised at the details that the players remember. When I mentioned last year’s match between these two, Roberta remembered that she was down in the second set, but came back to bring it to a third set win. That was 69 matches and tons of international travel ago! I can’t even remember my last league match and, as you know, I video them on my own website!

Liga Dekmeijere / Irina Falconi
d. Eugenie Bouchard / Aleksandra Wozniak 6-0, 4-6, [10-8]

An unbelievable see-saw match! Bouchard/Wozniak were up 3-0 in the second set, when Dekmeijere/Falconi came back to tie it up, and battle it out, then lose it. Then, in the third set tiebreak, Bouchard/Wozniak were up 5-0, and Dekmeijere/Falconi battled back, I believe, with the next six points in a row, getting up 6-5. At 9-6, Dekmeijere/Falconi, . . . Bouchard/Wozniak saved two match points before being eliminated.

You are incorrect in your comments about the doubles match tiebreak, Alex and Eugenie were UP 5-0 in the tiebreak and Dekmeijere/Falconi came back to take the lead 9-6, and it went 9-8 and then won 10-8.
    Cheers,
    Dave

  2. Thanks for the correction, Dave. At 2:00 in the morning, after all that excitement, an editing of my show, I just copy/pasted the incorrect set of names 🙂
I have corrected it in my posting.

Happy to help you Marcus. I follow tennis very closely, especially Alexsandra, who I have met and interviewed, this year in Eastbourne at the Aegon International. Great person for sure! Enjoy the exploits of Maria Kirilenko and Vera Zvonareva, though she has had such a tough year with injuries and illness.
Aga is a sweet lady too. My main media role is an account advertising executive, but have covered all sports in my media career, dating back to 1969! Yes, I am an old geezer, born in London originally, living on Vancouver Island Canada. I will now follow you on Twitter. We have a grasscourt club where I live called the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis club, 125 years old. Presented five copies of the brochure to the LTA at Eastbourne in June.
    Take care,
    Dave

Just a little further note to the tiebreak, it went 5-3, then 6-3 and then 9-6, and 9-8 and finally 10-8. I dont think you need to lose any sleep over that though!
