Hey Tennis Friends!
Last weekend, I was invited to another local tennis venue that had a USTA sanctioned Open, and other NTRP levels, event. Because of a recent rain on the qualifying weekend, prior to the main draw weekend, the schedule was a little compressed, but, that made for a more concentrated tennis day!
CORRECTION:
In the on-screen graphics, I had misspelled Jelena’s last name. The correct spelling is “Durisic”.
The results for the matches that I featured in the video report are:
MEN’S OPEN SINGLES QUARTERFINALS
Dennis Novikov d. Raymond Sarmiento 6-4, 6-4
Daniel Kosakowski d. Daniel Nguyen 6-1, 3-6, 6-3
WOMEN’S OPEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Jelena Durisic d. Rio Kitagawa 6-3, 2-6, 6-4
The scores for the Men’s Open Singles Semifinal rounds were:
Dennis Novikov d. Derek A. Siddiqui 6-3, 7-6
Daniel Kosakowski d. Dennis Mkrtchian 3-6, 7-6, 6-3
In the Men’s Open Singles Championship, which was held the next day, on a Monday, the two top seeds, #1-Daniel Kosakowski and #2-Dennis Novikov battled it out with Kosokowski winning the contest: 6-3, 6-2.

Way to cover this event Mark…any plans on covering the USTA Sectionals this weekend and the next?
It’s difficult to get a good camera position on matches where I am not on the court playing. Also, at the league level, they are not used to “TV-type” of coverage, and do not give me the leeway that the bigger tournaments do. Hopefully, if all of my Tennis Friends send email to the USTA about my coverage, we can change that 🙂
Marcus, based on what you saw during this tournament who do you think has the best chance of succeeding in professional’s in the long run?
Marcus,
Great coverage on this event!!! So glad that you could make it and cover the tournament so thoroughly. La Habra Tennis Center is the perfect venue for this event. With coverage from Grounds Pass, and great tennis players this tournament can only get bigger! Outstanding!

Difficult to say, as I am not an expert. There was a lot of talent out there and predicting the future can lead to embarrassment 🙂
Kosakowski has had a good taste in his first year on the ATP circuit, but, the “next level” is really difficult in this sport.
Thanks coach! If it wasn’t for your recommendation about this event, I would not have covered it. There was SO much more action going on there than what I covered (as always).
