2010 Western & Southern Women’s & Masters

August 9th, 2010

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s time to make a trip to the Midwest, and check in on the Olympus U.S. Open Series, as it makes it’s stop in Cincinnati!

In a press conference today, I asked Ana Ivanovic about the mental aspect of her game, and her streaky play this year. She began the year with a semifinal showing in January, but then lost in the first couple rounds of tournaments until another semifinal appearance in May. After that, she was back to losing in early rounds.

MARCUS TENNIS: Is that a mental thing or are you physically okay?

ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, I think it’s a mix of both, you know. I had a great week in Rome, and then, after Madrid, I was little bit sick, so I didn’t really work as much as I had. It’s all connected. You have to work hard to gain confidence, and I haven’t been working as hard in those months after Rome for various reasons.
I just felt like when it was a tough moment in the match, I felt, “Maybe I’m not ready for this.” Even though I might have been, I just didn’t have confidence. So now I put in a lot of hard work, and I changed structure a little bit. That kind of feels good. So, in the tough matches, you know, you can pull through, and you have that confidence to fall back on.

There are SO many big names playing tomorrow that I couldn’t possibly list them all without filling up an entire page!

2010 Farmers Classic V

July 30th, 2010

Hey Tennis Friends!

It’s the fifth day of the Farmers Classic, presented by Mercedes-Benz!
I’ll be reporting daily from the LA Tennis Center, on the campus of UCLA.
Get your tickets for the weekend now!

The final scores for the matches I mentioned are:

Rohan Bopanna / Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi
d. Arnaud Clement / Jonathan Erlich 4-6, 7-6(4) [14]
Remember, there is no third set in ATP doubles. Instead they play a 10 point tiebreak. The whole third set, and the tiebreak were so close that it could have gone either way.

Feliciano Lopez d. James Blake 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-4In the press conference, Feliciano was asked what he thought makes Rafael Nadal better than everyone else. His response was, “The mind. I think Rafa has the best mind in sports, . . . than anybody!”

Andy Murray d. Alejandro Falla 7-6(3), 6-1
After the match, Murray admitted that he, ” . . . was just playing some good points, and some bad ones. Just, very up and down.”
