Hey Tennis Friends!
The WTA returns to Texas for the first time in 16 years this week, for the inaugural Texas Tennis Open. I’m at the tournament to encourage you to come on down and check it out!
Originally, Melanie was to play the #1 seeded Peng Shaui. When Peng withdrew because of a left hip injury, Akgul Amanmuradova got put into Peng’s slot as the Lucky Loser.
After a tough first set, and the first game of the second set, Akgul retired because of a lower back injury. Prior to today’s win, Melanie had not won a main draw WTA Tour match win since April of this year.
The final scores for the matches I featured are:
Shahar Peer d. Anastasiya Yakimova 6-1, 6-3
Melanie Oudin d. Akgul Amanmuradova 7-6(6), 1-0 (Retired)
Sabine Lisicki d. Sania Mirza 6-3, 6-0
