2009 USTA Pro Circuit – Claremont, CA

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Hey Tennis Friends!

I visited the semifinals of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic in Claremont, California. This is an ITF Futures event on the USTA Pro Circuit.

The first semifinal was between Matej Bocko, from Slovakia, and Marcus Fugate, from the USA.
The second semifinal was between Daniel Danilovic, from Montenegro, and Bradley Klahn, from the USA.

Since this was my first time attending a USTA Pro Circuit event, I was a little unfamiliar with the pronunciation of the players’ names. So, please excuse me if I didn’t get their names correct, until I actually interviewed them . . .

The #5 seed, Matej Bocko, won the first semifinal over last year’s tournament doubles champion, American, Marcus Fugate:
7-6 (4), 6-3.

After taking out the #8 seed in the second round, and the #1 seed in the quarterfinals, Bradley Klahn was down 1-4 in the first set tiebreak. He was able to turn things around and pull out a victory in the second semifinal over the #4 seed, Daniel Danilovic:
7-6 (6), 6-3.

In the final the next day, the 25 year old Matej Bocko overtook the 19 year old American, Bradley Klahn:
7-6(4) 6-3 .

That was Matej’s second ITF Futures singles title this year, and the second time he has taken out an American in a final this year!

I’ll see you next time, with more tennis, . . . outside the lines!
