Hey Tennis Friends!
Another full day of on-court action on all eight courts, but, it won’t be that way for long!
Victoria Azarenka withdrew from this tournament because of a recent recurring pain in her right hand, not wrist, as I had originally heard, then reported. The pain began when she played Serena Williams in Toronto, then subsided, but came back during today’s pre-match practice.
Today’s web-only exclusive is an excerpt from the transcript of the Q&A
with Juan-Martin del Potro at last night’s post-match press conference:
MARCUS TENNIS: You got a great response from the crowd in Los Angeles and here. How does that make you feel after being out for a year to know that you still have so many fans here in the United States?
JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: “Well, they make me feel too much happy, you know. I miss the fans! I miss the sport when I was out with my wrist problem. They still like my game, my personality, and it’s very important for the confidence and for the life, too.”
The final scores for the matches I featured are:
Fransesca Schivone d. Maria Kirilenko 7-5, 3-6, 6-4
Liezel Huber / Lisa Raymond
d. Eleni Danilidou / Polana Hercog 6-3, 7-6(4)
Fernando Verdasco d. Michael Llodra 6-4, 6-4
Novak Djokovic d. Ryan Harrison 6-2, 6-3
Shahar Peer d. Pauline Parmetier 6-2, 6-3
