2013 Southern California Open III

Thursday, August 1st, 2013

Hey Tennis Friends!

Day three of the main draw at the Southern California Open! As I always remind you, the later in the tournament, the less tennis you will see, so, take a day off and get down here while you still can!

Women’s Singles
Ana Ivanovic d. Dominika Cibulkova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
Ivanovic came out swinging in the third set, and Cibulkova was just mising her shots by inches. That alone allowed Ivanovic to go up 5-0, rather quickly. Ana’s last championship was at Bali in 2011. She keeps making it pretty deep in the draws, but, regularly goes up against Agnieszka Radwanska for elimination.

Women’s Doubles
Racquel Kops-Jones / Abigail Spears
d. Lisa Raymond / Laura Robson 6-4, 6-3

These teams faced each other earlier this year, in Miami. That was the first time for the Raymond/Robson team-up, and they took out Kops-Jones/Spears.
Since then, Kops-Jones/Spears have had a lot of success, even winning the championship in Stanford last week. Raymond/Robson have not had very good luck, as they are usually out in the first round. Included in Raymond’s 79 doubles titles are 6 Grand Slam doubles, and 5 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.

Daniela Hantuchova / Martina Hingis
d. Julia Goerges / Darija Jurak 6-1, 6-1

Hingis is quite a presence around this event, as she is busy promoting her collaboration with the Tonic brand. There are press conferences, photo shoots, and corporate events. Dare I say that I might be seeing too much of Martina Hingis? 😛
