2012 USTA Pro Circuit – Costa Mesa, CA II

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

Hey Tennis Friends!

The Costa Mesa Pro Classic is the second in a three week USTA Pro Circuit Futures blast through Southern California. Once again, I was there on Thursday of the week-long tournament to file this report:

Here is the link to the page with the three USTA Pro-Circuit events that we have in Southern California this month.

Here are the results for the matches that I featured:

SINGLES ROUND OF 16 (with seedings):
(3)Devin Britton d. Alexios Halebian 6-4, 6-2

Did you know that as a freshman at the University of Mississippi in 2009, Devin Britton became the youngest NCAA singles champion (18) and only the third freshman to win that title? The other two collegiate stars to accomplish that feat are John McEnroe in 1977 (Stanford), and Cecil Mamiit in 1996 (USC).

Daniel Nguyen d. Nicolas Meister 6-4, 6-4
Daniel Nguyen was the team captain for the final year of the USC four-peat reign. Their 2012 NCAA Championship rings ceremony is scheduled for 12:30pm today, which, unfortunately/fortunately, Daniel will make, as he lost his quarterfinal match on Friday.

DOUBLES SEMIFINAL (with seedings):
(1)Devin Britton / Jeff Dadamo
d. Connor Farren / Chris Wettengel 6-4, 3-6, [10-8]

As reported here in my previous post, and mentioned in their interview, at last week’s Claremont Futures Devin Britton and Reid Carlton beat Jeff Dadamo and Kyle McMorrow in the doubles championship round.

As of this posting, Devin Britton has made it to the singles semifinal, and will play against last week’s champion, Daniel Kosakowski. He will also play in the doubles final, along with partner Jeff Dadamo, who is in the other singles semifinal against Dennis Nevolo. Matches begin at 10:00AM, today, Saturday, Sept, 22, so, if you are in the area, you can watch these matches for FREE!
